Step by Step guide for learning to Drive
Step One:
Apply for a Provisional Driving Licence. This is a Green Driving Licence which allows you to drive with any persons older than 21 that has been driving for longer than 3 years. The DVSA naturally recommends the services of a Registered Driving Instructor.
Step Two:
Book your driving lessons and pass the Theory Test with help and assistance from your Driving Instructor. The theory test consists of multiple choice questions assessing the candidates understanding of driving theory as well as a hazard perception test. CD's are available from our office for home study if you can't take advantage of our 'free of charge' training sessions.

Continue with your driving lessons until both you and your Instructor feel you are ready to book and pass your Driving Test. Your driving test will consist of, an eyesight test, two vehicle safety questions and a test of driving ability. When you pass, the driving examiner will take your Green provisional licence and within three weeks you should receive your Pink full driving licence direct from the DVLA, where one journey ends and another begins....

Format of your Driving Test
Arriving at your test centre:
At Royal we arrange to meet you from your normal pick-up location well before your test time in the car that you have had your lessons in. This gives enough time to warm-up and settle before getting to the test centre. Bring your Theory Pass Certificate & Photocard Licence with you.
Eye Sight Test:
At the start of the test there will be an eye sight test asking you to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres, if you require glasses ensure you have them, as if you fail the test will not go ahead and the fee will be lost.
Show me Tell me
This section is a simple test your of your basic knowledge of the car with one 'show me' & one 'tell me' question.

During your Driving Test
The examiner will be looking for a 'competence to drive', with a period of 'independent driving' and a manoeuvre such as bay or reverse parking.
Independent Driving
This section will require following a specific set of instructions which may be written, by SatNav or simply following signs.

Once you have finished your test
Your examiner will debrief you explaining any areas they marked down and email the test report to the email address provided.
Cancelled Driving Tests
If your driving test has been cancelled due to a fault on behalf of the DVSA, you will be able to make a compensation claim.
Taking your Driving Instructor with you on your driving Test
At the start of your test your driving examiner will ask you if you wish your Driving Instructor to accompany you on your driving test.
